Climate Change

Carbon emissions are the number one cause of major environmental damage today. The burning of fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and gas to create energy causes these emissions. With societies current dependence on coal and oil, everything we do and all the products we manufacture involves the emission of carbon dioxide into our atmosphere.

As we all know, carbon dioxide is re-absorbed by plants and trees in a natural carbon cycle. However, it is currently the amount of carbon dioxide being released versus the amount being absorbed that is out of balance. Considering the increase in the world’s population over the last fifty years, along with the increase in manufacturing, and then the global decline of rainforests, this “natural carbon cycle” philosophy no longer holds true. Due to the amount of carbon dioxide that remains trapped in our atmosphere the Earth’s temperature is gradually rising, and scientists in every country agree that it’s foolish not to admit that greenhouse gases are the main cause of global warming.

Renewable Energy

Renewable energy comes from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, and geothermal heat. Electricity generated by natural resources is known as clean energy and results in zero to low greenhouse gas emissions. With an ever-increasing global focus on the effects of climate change, the clean energy industry is adding new legislation, incentives, and regulations to promote energy efficiency.

According to a 2011 projection by the International Energy Agency this increased attention is driving large investments in renewable energy within Australia and overseas. When the Australian government turns the revenue from the carbon tax into investments towards clean energy, then people will change their minds about why those industries that pollute the most should have to pay to do so.
